VDASH-EMU is an emulator, but what’s an emulator?

EKSIMRacing created the SLI-PRO EMU (SLIEmu) in 2009 during the creation of the SLI-PRO USB display in collaboration with Leo Bodnar at this time it was necessary to test the software even before  the availability of the prototype of the USB card, for that stuff we must create what is called an EMULATOR, which aims to reproduce exactly the internal software of the card (the FIRMWARE) and according to the commands sent to the card (so to the firmware) to get the same behaviors for leds, display panels, gear, buttons, encoders, switches, etc.

SLI-PRO emulation on Android (first gen EMU released in 2009):

By doing this you can test your USB display card management software without having the card available physically. That’s how the first racing display emulator for Android was born.

In engineering, emulation is commonly used during development and before the manufacture of a new product. F1 engines are emulated to optimize their efficiency and effectiveness.

VDASH-EMU is the 2nd generation emulator (much more powerful) and it is not a simple graphic dash racing as we can find tons on the net, it’s firstly an emulator of an USB device ( the SIM Race F1 SIM Display) in other words the internal software of the USB card (the firmware) is emulated which allows to use it exactly like a real racing display, which also allows to have 32 buttons , 5 encoders, 3 switches, 15 RPM leds, 6 Marshal Leds, 7 externals leds, 2 display panels (right and left) of 4 digits of 14 segments and one central digit of 7 segments for gear.

All configurations applicable to the SIM Race F1 usb card are applicable to the VDASH-EMU. In addition to the standard graphical objects (digital and analog gauges, telemetry DATA, tach, labels, etc.) there are some objects directly managed by the emulator, including the left / right panels, the object RPM shiftlights bar, all Leds, big gear object (central gear display), buttons, encoders, switches.

So you can read the doc and tutorial of SLIMax on the SIM Race F1 usb card because it’s directly applicable to VDASH-EMU objects.

You have the same features as the SIM Display USB Display Card + a full buttonbox + a complete virtual racing dash with hundreds of dash templates ready to use.

A high resolution SIM Race F1 template for the VDASH-EMU is available at EKSIMRacing VDASH-EMU templates repository (see the link below), this is an example of template using objects managed by the EMUlator:
